Colorado Tick Fever
Structure: Colorado Tick Fever is caused by the genus coltvirus. Coltvirus is 80nm in diameter and is a double stranded RNA viral genome. It is a non-enveloped icosahedral virion with a triple capsid structure. This means that it has three protein coated layers, or capids.
Colorado Tick Fever is a virus/disease that occurs between the months of March and September. It is usually found in the westersn United States and Canada. It is mountainous areas such as Colorado and Idaho. This virus is caused by the bite of an infected wood tick (Dermacentor andersoni) It causes many problems such as fever and nausea.
Symptoms: The main symptom of the Colorado Tick Fever is getting a fever. The fever occurs for three days straight, then goes away, then comes back for another three days. Other symptoms include excessive sweating, headache, chills, pain behind the eyes, muscle pain, and abdominal pain.
Coltvirus
Treatments: There is no current treatments for Colorado Tick Fever. Removing the tick from the skin right away might prevent the problem. Acetaminophen and analgesics will treat the fever and pain, but they won't remove the virus completely.
Prevention: Avoid Colorado Tick Fever by: - Avoiding tick-infested areas such as woods during summer months. - Check your body for ticks daily. - Wear insect repellent with DEET, wich kills bugs. - Pull ticks off immediately when found.
Transmission: Colorado Tick Fever is transmitted by tick bites. These bites are from the wood tick, whom reside in mainly the Colorado area. This virus can't be transmitted through person to person, but in some cases, it has been transmitted through blood transfusions.
